Of course, being back in town I hit the diner for some real food and a catch-up with Hutch. The poor sod ... never happy. But today he was taught a lesson, and as I write this E is sitting here watching the words appear on the screen because I only want to tell this once and then fall onto my bed and watch the cleaned-up Eraserhead - the dvd arrived while we were away ... I LOVE when that happens. There is surely nothing worse than coming back from a trip to find an empty mailbox.
Ok ... Hutch was on form today, I mean, full-on negativity, really ruining my happy return to the city. Having to just sit opposite him was bad enough but then he starts complaining about the food and then about the coffee. "Hey Honey!" he shouts over to the waitress ... he actually said that. I covered my face with my hands and then, in shock I suppose, burst out laughing as he asked "how do you make your coffee this weak?". But the waitress, sharp as a pin replies, "same as we made it last week," before flipping Hutch the bird from behind the counter.
Nice.
A classy afternoon all round.
Anyway, the best bit came straight after ... Hutch eats with his mouth open. It's like sitting in front of an automatic washing machine watching your dirty underwear go round and round ... his jaws seem to move sideways instead of the regular up and down thing most people opt for. So, yeah he peels the foil from the top of his yoghurt in anger, lifts it up to his mouth, and as he half shovels, half sucks in a spoonful of the stuff ... his jaw locked! For about five minutes he sat there with a string of yoghurty drool swinging from his face while I received a free coffee top-up and paid the check.
I love my friends.
E wants to know why I call him Hutch when he annoys me and Ken when we are getting on just fine. I didn't realize I did that.
Tomorrow - something quite odd.
